New for 2017 - Cask and Sea

Monday 3rd July 2017

This first ever tailor-made tour from Portrush to Port Ellen on Islay will take you to two of the best Scotch Distillers in the world.

We will set sail from the beautiful harbour of Portrush on The Causeway Lass. You will start your day with an on-board Breakfast BBQ; using wood chippings from Whiskey Barrels to flavour the local sausages & bacon.

The trip will be fully hosted by Wendy from Causeway Coast Foodie Tours & The Whiskey Lad. Both hosts will be your personal guides throughout the whole trip.

On arriving at Port Ellen, you will be transported by private taxi to Ardbeg Distillery. This is your chance to unearth the mysteries of Ardbeg, both through the production process and its rich history. You’ll be led on a comprehensive tour of the Distillery with a tasting in ‘The Chairman’s Study’. Here you will sip and savour not only samples from Ardbeg’s main range, but two special drams of your Guide’s choice. After a delicious two course lunch at Ardbeg, we will travel by taxi to our next Distiller, the mighty, Laphroaig.

Once arriving at the 200 year old Distillery of Laphroaig, you will be invited to take part in a Laphroaig & Food Pairing Class & Tour. With an experienced Laphroaig Host, learn how to explore the flavours in your dram when accompanied by small food samples. You will also gain the opportunity to drop past the Visitor Centre, learn more about the history of Laphroaig in the Museum, relax in the Lounge with a dram, browse the Gift Shop or take time to chat with the Laphroaig Hosts.

Before departing Islay on The Causeway Lass, you can explore the village of Port Ellen. Try a few more drams from some of the other Islay Distillers at the stunning Islay Hotel, or take some pictures of the eye-catching scenery.

On the trip back to Portrush, you will have the opportunity to openly discuss your whisky experience with the Group & The Whiskey Lad (A Scottish Whisky Ambassador). After a day of sampling the best Islay Whisky in the world, The Whiskey Lad will offer a tasting of Bushmills Irish Whiskey on-board, overlooking the magical North Coast of Northern Ireland.

Bookings available for Summer 2017.

For this unique experience, price per person is £250 which includes return boat trip, tours and food & drink as outlined above.

Causeway Coast Foodie Tours, in collaboration with The Causeway Lass and Babushka in Portrush, can offer a truly unique experience unlike anything else found anywhere in Ireland.

Leaving Portrush Harbour, just before daybreak in The Causeway Lass, we will catch our breakfast in the crystal clear waters of the Causeway Coast, as the sun slowly rises over The Mull of Kintyre and Rathlin Island. With the exception of waterproof clothing and suitable footwear, all fishing equipment and bait is provided along with tuition as to its use. During the trip tea and coffee will be available.

Your breakfast will be dependent on the variety of fish caught, but Mackerel Surprise is almost certain to be on the menu. The fun of fishing is, ‘you never can tell!’

At this time of the morning we may well encounter dolphins, basking sharks etc. so it is advisable to bring along a camera.
Having caught, cleaned and learned about the days catch; we will head to Babushka, where our bounty will be prepared and paired with local, seasonal produce to create a breakfast to be enjoyed overlooking the West Strand.
We are excited to be able to work with local providers to share this unique opportunity with you.
